Grand Prize Winner!

As some of you may know I am a Scentsy Representative. In getting ready for the new 2010 Spring/Summer catalog and the unveiling of their new warmers, Scentsy held a contest for all consultants and consultant customers that consisted of finding 12 hidden scentsy icons scattered all over the map in the US and Canada. Each day Scentsy provided us a clue to all 12 locations and we would try and locate the warmer. This wasn’t easy. I got frustrated and each day I would wait for the next clue to hopefully make finding the warmers easier. I found one on the first day and then one on the second day. By the third day, I had six out of the 12. Each day I found one more. I ended up finding only nine out of the twelve hidden warmers. I didn’t think I had a chance in hell to win; plus I didn’t even know what the prize was. In my mind I had given up and went about my weekend. I also forgot that on Monday they were going to announce the winners.

Monday night I get an email from Scentsy: GRAND PRIZE WINNER!! in the subject line. I didn’t even know what it was until I read the email. I was in such shock. I kept reading the email over and over again making sure it was truly meant for me and that it was for real.

I will be receiving 8 warmers from the new Spring/Summer collections and Scentsy Bars of ALL the Spring/Summer scents. WOW! That’s a lot of product. Anyone want to host a party?? Be sure to visit my website for all the awesome Promos this month!

Loving Your Child Unconditionally

As we (my husband and I) go through some trying times in raising a teenager, I have come to the conclusion that unconditional love is part of the answer. Here are a few points I enjoyed reading from the web.

There will be trying times when raising children. Love them in the good times as well as in the bad. And yes, there will be bad times. That is just a fact of life.
Regardless of your child’s performance academically or socially, always love them because there will be times when they think no one else does. That is where you come in. You are the one consistent, constant and eternal person they can depend on
There will be times they question your love, don’t want your love, refuse your love, don’t accept your love and may act as though they don’t love you and may even tell you so – love them anyway
Give a child focused and dedicated attention. When you give a child your full attention and do not steer away from them in any way, a child will feel loved unconditionally. You should spend undivided time with them and do something you can both bond over.

I also found these pointers very helpful.

1. “Sometimes, I just need to be alone.” Teens have a tendency to withdraw a little while they are figuring out their world. They may be pretty chatty with their friends, but may retreat into their own space when at home. This tendency is also natural and for the most part should not be alarming. If it becomes extreme, then you should be concerned.

2. “Sometimes, I just want you to listen.” Dads often tend to want to be problem-solvers and jump right into a conversation with advice. Resist that temptation and try from time to time to just listen. Many times conversations between parents and teenagers is a chance for a teen to “work it out on their own” with you listening in. Give them that chance to learn to deal with life’s issues rationally and reasonably without you jumping in to solve the issues.

3. “I need you to be consistent.” While teens often rebel at parental authority, they expect and feel most comfortable when parents stick by rule and behave consistently. Don’t constantly change curfews—have a rule and stick with it. The consistency will help give your teen something to rely on—an anchor in the storm of life.

14. “Walk your talk.” Teens get frustrated when parents say one thing and do another. Keep your commitments—they would rather have no promise than a broken one. If we have a family rule about television or video games, mom and dad should live by the rule as well. Set a good example and keep your commitments, and your teen will have greater respect for you.

Love My Cat!

Old Fashioned??

Am I an old fashioned parent? I didn’t think that I was. What would you have done?

My daughter gets invited to a friend’s birthday party (it’s a sleepover) with 2 other teens – they are all friends. Party started at 2:00pm so I dropped her off with her blanket, pillow and other girly paraphanalia. I did go inside to see what time to pick darling daughter up the following day. I was thinking noon time, but as it turns out the mother agreed to 2:00pm. So I am getting ready to leave, gave my daughter hugs and kisses goodbye and I am ready to step out the door when the mother asks me if I knew what the plans were.

Plans? What plans? (Thinking to myself) All I know is that my daughter is here to attend a teen slumber b’day party and your asking me if I know what the plans are. If there was something more than that, shouldn’t I have been made aware of that before my foot hit the exit threshold? (stopped thinking to myself)

Conversation ensued as such:

ME: No, I don’t know what the plans are.

TEENS MOM: Oh b’day daughter’s friend Bri wants to go to the CountyFair.

ME: ”OH”?!? Well, my darling daughter does not have my permission to go. (old fashioned part)

TEENS MOM (talking to b’day daughter): You better text your friend Bri letting her know you aren’t going because darling daughter can’t go.

ME: Ok, well have fun tonight.

I left and drove home fuming all the way. I was thinking, 4 teen girls at a county fair alone, not safe. The mother was just going to drop them off. (Am I being old fashioned?) I got home and found out from my darling daughter that Bri who suggested going to the fair was being selfish and ditched the b’day party and went to the fair instead with her other friends. And the 4th friend didn’t get parental approval to go in the first place. It ended up being darling daughter and b’day girl.

They had fun nonetheless!!
